Energy Justice or Green Colonialism?
The Negev cases (blue circles) raise fundamental questions about the concept of environmental justice: Is renewable energy a tool for sustainable development, or is it merely a new mechanism for deepening discrimination and land dispossession? In the Negev, "sustainability" does not seem to include everyone; rather, it is being used as a justification for marginalizing Palestinian communities and turning green energy into a privilege for some at the expense of others.
The Negev… A Green Energy Oasis? Or a Landscape of Deprivation?
As one travels through the Negev, the sight of solar panels stretching across the desert landscape might seem like a testament to the shift toward renewable energy. However, behind this "green" façade lie stark contradictions that reveal a reality of discrimination and deprivation suffered by Palestinian residents in unrecognized villages.
